Ty Masterson was born on September 23, 1969, in El Dorado, Kansas. He is a Republican member of the Kansas Senate, representing the 16th district since 2009. Before his tenure in the Senate, he served as a Representative in the Kansas House of Representatives from 2005 to 2008. He lives in Andover, Kansas, and has also served on the Andover City Council.

In addition to his political career, Masterson has experience as a realtor and a small business owner. He attended Kansas State University. His career in public service began with his election to the Andover City Council, followed by his term in the Kansas House of Representatives for District 99.

In 2020, Masterson was elected president of the Kansas State Senate. During his time in the Senate, he has served on several legislative committees. These include the Federal and State Affairs Committee, Public Health and Welfare Committee, and the Utilities Committee. He has also chaired the Ways and Means Committee.

Despite his successful political career, Masterson faced financial difficulties in 2011 when he filed for bankruptcy. At the time, he owed significant amounts in commercial loans and had substantial credit card debt.
