Representative Beverly Chester-Burton
Beverly Chester-Burton, born in 1963, is an American politician who has been serving as a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives since January 1, 2023. She represents Kentucky’s 44th House district. Outside of politics, she is a teacher in Jefferson County Public Schools.
Electoral History: On November 6, 2018, she was elected as the first African-American mayor of Shively, Kentucky, with 97.8% of the vote after serving 10 years on the city council. She was elected on November 8, 2022, in the 2022 Kentucky House of Representatives election. She assumed office on January 1, 2023.
Biography: Chester-Burton was born in 1963 to parents Cozy and Linnes Chester Sr. She graduated from the University of Louisville, Spalding University and Western Kentucky University.
Education: Beverly Chester-Burton earned master’s degrees in education and teaching and a specialist degree in education.
Career: Chester-Burton’s career experience includes working as a teacher with Stuart Elementary School. She has served as the mayor of Shively, Kentucky, and the director of the Jefferson County Teachers Association.
Political Career: Beverly Chester-Burton is a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives. She is a Democrat and has been serving as a Kentucky State Representative since 2023. She handles district 44 which includes portions of Jefferson County and the city of Shively, Kentucky. She was Mayor of Shively before becoming a State Representative for the city.
