Derrick W. Graham, born in Frankfort, Kentucky, is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Kentucky House of Representatives. He has been representing District 57 since January 2003. However, he has announced that he will not be seeking reelection in 2024.

Graham’s educational background includes a BA in history and political science from Kentucky State University and an MA in political science from Ohio State University. Before his political career, Graham was a teacher at Frankfort High School and a city commissioner in Frankfort from 1992 to 2000. He also served as a student regent and later a Board of Regent member at Kentucky State University.

In his political career, Graham has seen several successful elections. In 2002, when Representative Gippy Graham left the Legislature and the seat open, Derrick Graham won the four-way 2002 Democratic Primary with 5,023 votes (44.7%) and won the November 5, 2002 General election with 8,209 votes (61.9%) against Republican nominee Joel Schrader. He was unopposed for both the 2004 and 2006 Democratic Primaries and the November General elections, winning with 14,432 votes in 2004 and 11,938 votes in 2006. In the 2008 Democratic Primary, he was unopposed and won the November 4, 2008 General election with 14,015 votes (74.7%) against Republican nominee Frank Haynes. He was unopposed for the May 18, 2010 Democratic Primary and won the November 2, 2010 General election with 11,282 votes (67.0%) against Republican nominee Paul Estep.

Graham’s professional experience includes working as a teacher at Frankfort Independent Schools and educator for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He has also been involved in various community services and held several positions including being a member of the St John AME Church, Steward Bd. South Frankfort Community Ctr Bd, and Frankfort City Commissioner, among others.
