Senator Larry Selders

Larry Selders is a member of the Democratic Party and currently serves in the Louisiana State Senate, representing District 14. He assumed office on March 11, 2025, and his current term will conclude on January 10, 2028.

Larry C. Selders was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from the Louisiana State University Laboratory School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in social work from Southern University and A&M College in 2005. His professional background includes work in the healthcare industry, where he has served as the executive director of a mental health and substance abuse clinic. Selders has also been active in community development, investing in local properties and supporting initiatives aimed at improving neighborhoods in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Selders’s public service career began with his appointment to the Recreation and Park Commission for East Baton Rouge Parish (BREC) in 2010, where he served for nine years. His tenure on the commission reflected his commitment to expanding recreational opportunities and improving public spaces for residents. In 2012, he was elected to the Democratic Parish Executive Committee (DPEC), where he completed two terms, further solidifying his role in local Democratic politics.

In November 2019, Selders was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives, representing District 67. He succeeded Patricia Haynes Smith and served from January 2020 until March 2025. During his time in the House, Selders focused on issues such as healthcare access, education, and community development. His legislative work emphasized the importance of addressing systemic inequities and improving opportunities for working families across Louisiana. He was succeeded in the House by Terry Landry Jr. following his transition to the Senate.

Selders entered the Louisiana State Senate in 2025 after winning the election to represent District 14, succeeding Cleo Fields. His district encompasses parts of Baton Rouge and surrounding communities. As a senator, he has been appointed to several committees, including Finance, Labor, and Senate & Governmental Affairs. These assignments allow him to influence key areas of policy, ranging from fiscal management to labor rights and governmental oversight.
