Senator Mark Abraham
Mark Thorpe Abraham, born on November 13, 1953, is a distinguished businessman and politician hailing from Lake Charles. He has been serving as the representative of the 25th district in the Louisiana State Senate since 2020. Prior to this, he was a state representative for the 36th district from 2016 to 2020.
Abraham’s journey in politics began with the October 24, 2015 primary election. He emerged victorious with 5,607 votes, which accounted for 54.6 percent of the total votes, defeating another Republican candidate, Keith DeSonier, who secured 4,654 votes (45.4 percent). He then served as a Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 36 in Calcasieu Parish in southwestern Louisiana.
On January 11, 2016, he succeeded the term-limited Republican Representative Chuck Kleckley, who was also the former Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives. In 2019, Abraham won the election to the 25th district in the State Senate, succeeding the term-limited incumbent Republican Dan Morrish.
Apart from his political career, Abraham is also a successful businessman and a real estate broker. He is an alumnus of Louisiana State University where he majored in Accounting. During his college years, he was part of the LSU Tigers football team and played as a Safety.
Abraham is a family man, married to Gina Abraham, and they are blessed with three children. They reside in Lake Charles, Louisiana, U.S.
