Michael Brennan is a dedicated public servant with a rich history of political and community involvement. He is currently serving his third consecutive term in the Maine House of Representatives, representing part of Portland in District 115. His political career is marked by a strong focus on education, having served as the House chair of the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee.

Brennan’s commitment to public service extends beyond the legislature. He is a licensed clinical social worker and has contributed to the field of education as an adjunct faculty member at both the University of Southern Maine and the University of New England. His leadership skills were also evident during his tenure as the mayor of Portland from 2011 to 2015.

Throughout his career, Brennan has been involved in various committees and task forces, including the Maine Juvenile Justice Task Force and the Redistricting Commission. He has also chaired the Joint Select Committee on Substance Use and served on the Health and Human Services Committee and the Business and Economic Development Committee.

As a state senator, Brennan held the position of majority leader and chaired the Health and Human Services Committee, the Joint Select Committee on Health Care Reform, and the Blue Ribbon Commission on MaineCare Reform.

Michael Brennan’s life outside of politics is grounded in his family and community. He resides in Portland with his wife, Joan Martay, and together they have raised two children and now enjoy the company of their grandchild. His dedication to his constituents and his passion for improving the lives of Mainers are evident in his long-standing service and numerous contributions to the state.
