Senator Russell Black, a lifelong resident of Wilton, is currently serving his third term in the Maine State Senate representing District 5. Formerly District 17, the newly reapportioned district includes municipalities and unorganized territories in both Franklin County and Somerset County, as well as Rome and Vienna in Kennebec County.

Senator Russell Black, a lifelong resident of Wilton, is currently serving his third term in the Maine State Senate representing District 5. Formerly District 17, the newly reapportioned district includes municipalities and unorganized territories in both Franklin County and Somerset County, as well as Rome and Vienna in Kennebec County.

Prior to his service in the Senate, Sen. Black represented District 114 in the Maine House of Representatives for four consecutive terms. While in the House, he served as the ranking member of the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee.

Sen. Black also served as the Senate Republican Lead of the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee.

A farmer and a logger by trade, he owns and operates Black Acres Farm in Wilton. His farm specializes in raising grass-fed beef cattle and hogs, and producing maple syrup. He is a graduate of Mt. Blue High School in Farmington and attended Central Maine Community College and the Wentworth Institute for Technology in Boston, Massachusetts.

Sen. Black has served at the local level as well, including nine years as a selectman for the Town of Wilton and a planning board member for 19 years. He has also served in the community as a director and past president of the Wilton Lions Club, past president of the Mt. Blue High School All Sports Boosters, and a member of the Wilton Fish and Game Club.

His professional affiliations have included serving as a committee member for the USDA Farm Service Agency, a director and past vice president of the Franklin County Farm Bureau, and as a director of the Farmington Farmers Union. He is a member of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine.

Senator Black and his wife, Susan, have been married for 51 years. Together they share four children, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
