Senator Susan Bernard

Susan Y. Bernard is a Republican member of the Maine State Senate, representing District 1. She assumed office on December 3, 2024, and her current term ends on December 1, 2026. Bernard ran for election to the Maine State Senate to represent District 1 and won in the general election on November 5, 2024.

Bernard’s career experience includes working as the executive assistant to the president of Northern Maine Community College, the director of communications for the Diocese of Portland, and news director and anchor with WAGM TV. She has also served as a State Representative, where she was a member of the Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry Committee and the Innovation, Development, Economic Advancement and Business Committee.

In her role as a State Senator, Bernard is committed to supporting small and large businesses, including those in the agriculture and forestry sectors, by advocating for fewer regulations and less government interference. She also aims to encourage entrepreneurs and their creative spirit to help them succeed. Bernard is focused on increasing the availability of technical, trade, and vocational education programs to help lower costs and remove state restrictions on safe, efficient energy production, especially hydroelectric power.

Bernard is dedicated to supporting veterans by offering affordable housing and is committed to supporting families in every way possible, as she believes that strong families build strong communities. Her leadership in Augusta is driven by a desire for change and a new direction for Maine.
