Representative Stephanie Smith
Stephanie M. Smith is a dedicated public servant and a member of the Maryland House of Delegates. She represents District 45, Baltimore City. She has been serving in this role since January 9, 2019.
Born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on May 20, 1981, she pursued her passion for political science at Hampton University, where she earned her B.A. in 2003. She then went on to obtain her M.A. in Urban Affairs & Public Policy from the University of Delaware in 2006. Her educational journey culminated at Howard University School of Law, where she received her J.D. in 2009. She was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2012.
Before her political career, Stephanie worked as a Legislative Counsel at Earthjustice from 2010 to 2016. In 2017, she became the Assistant Director of Equity, Engagement, and Communications at the Department of Planning in Baltimore City. She also served on the Community Relations Commission in Baltimore City.
In the Maryland House of Delegates, Stephanie holds several key positions. She serves as the Parliamentarian, a role she has held since 2023. She is also the Chair of the Baltimore City Delegation and the Chair of the Education and Economic Development Subcommittee on the Appropriations Committee. She is a member of the Appropriations Committee, the Rules and Executive Nominations Committee, the Joint Audit and Evaluation Committee, and the Joint Committee on Children, Youth, and Families. She also serves on the Spending Affordability Committee.
Stephanie is a member of several caucuses, including the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland, where she serves as the Parliamentarian, the Maryland Legislative Transit Caucus, the Women Legislators of Maryland, and the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus.
She has been recognized for her work and was named one of the “Very Important Professionals Successful by 40” by the Daily Record in 2019.
Stephanie is married and has two sons. She continues to work tirelessly for her constituents, striving to make a positive impact in her community and the state of Maryland.
