Senator Julian Cyr
Julian Andre Cyr is an American politician who was elected to the Massachusetts State Senate in 2016. As a member of the Democratic Party, he represents the Cape and Islands district. Cyr assumed office on January 4, 2017, and his current term ends on January 1, 2025.
Born on January 19, 1986, in Hyannis, Massachusetts, Cyr is a native of Truro, Massachusetts. He completed the John F. Kennedy School of Government program for senior executives in state and local government as a David Bohnett LGBTQ Victory Institute Leadership Fellow in 2017.
Before his election to the senate, Cyr worked on policy and regulatory affairs for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and served as chair of the Massachusetts Commission on LGBT Youth. He won the primary election against Sheila Lyons with 55% of the votes and won the general election against Republican Tony Schiavi with 57% of the votes.
Throughout his tenure, Cyr has been assigned to various committees including Elder Affairs Joint Committee, Health Care Financing Joint Committee, Housing Joint Committee, Mental Health, Substance Use and Recovery Joint Committee, Public Health Joint Committee, and Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy Joint Committee. He has also served as the Vice Chair of the Mental Health, Substance Use and Recovery Joint Committee and the Chair of the Public Health Joint Committee.
