Erin Murphy is a distinguished member of the Minnesota State Senate, representing District 64. She was born in Columbus, Wisconsin, and currently resides in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She is married and has two children.

Education: Erin Murphy is a well-educated individual. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh in 1984. Later, she pursued her Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from the College of Saint Catherine in 2005.

Career: Before entering politics, Erin Murphy worked as a registered nurse. She also served as the executive director and founder of Our Stories. Our Health. She was the legislative director for former Attorney General Skip Humphrey in the late 90s.

Political Career: Erin Murphy’s political career began with her election to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2006. She was re-elected in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016. During her tenure in the House, she served as the deputy minority leader in the 2015 legislative session. In the 2013-2014 session, she served as majority leader; she is a former assistant majority leader.

In 2020, Erin Murphy was elected to the Minnesota State Senate. She was re-elected in 2022 for her second term. Her current term ends on January 5, 2027. In February of 2024, she began serving as State Senate Majority Leader for the Minnesota Senate after Kari Dziedzic stepped down due to ongoing health problems related to a cancer diagnosis.

Committee Assignments: Over the years, Erin Murphy has been assigned to various committees. In the 2023-2024 session, she was assigned to the Finance Committee, Senate Higher Education Finance and Policy Committee, Rules and Administration Committee, and Local Government Committee, which she chaired. In the 2021-2022 session, she was assigned to the Agriculture and Rural Development Finance and Policy Committee, where she served as the Ranking Minority Member, and the Senate Redistricting Committee.
