Gene Dornink, born on December 30, 1962, is a dedicated public servant and a member of the Minnesota Senate. He represents District 27, which includes all of Freeborn County and parts of Faribault, Mower, Steele, and Waseca Counties in southeastern Minnesota.

Born and raised on a dairy farm in southern Minnesota, Dornink has always been connected to the land and the people. He graduated from Austin Vocational School with a degree in carpentry and embarked on a career in residential construction. He worked as a union carpenter for many years, demonstrating his commitment to labor and the working class.

In addition to his work as a carpenter, Dornink also owned a small business. His experiences in the private sector have given him a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing small business owners in Minnesota.

Dornink’s political career began when he ran as a Republican candidate for District 27 of the Minnesota State Senate in 2016. Although he did not win this election, he remained undeterred and continued to work towards his goal of serving the people of Minnesota.

In the 2020 election, Dornink once again ran for the Minnesota State Senate, this time emerging victorious. He defeated the incumbent, Dan Sparks, and assumed office on January 5, 2021. His victory was a testament to his perseverance and dedication to public service.
