Senator Lindsey Port
Lindsey Port is a distinguished member of the Minnesota Senate. She represents Senate District 56, which includes parts of Burnsville, Savage, and Lakeville in Dakota and Scott counties in the southern Twin Cities metropolitan area. She is a member of the Minnesota Democratic Farmer-Labor Party.
Port was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she lived with her parents and sister. In 2001, she moved to Minnesota to attend the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.
In 2020, Port was elected to the Minnesota Senate with 53% of the vote, defeating the Republican incumbent, Dan Hall. Prior to this, in 2016, she ran for the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 56B but was defeated by the Republican incumbent, Roz Peterson.
During her tenure, Port has served on several committees including the Commerce and Consumer Protection Finance and Policy Committee, Housing Finance and Policy Committee, and the Technology and Reform Policy Committee. She is currently the chair of the Housing and Homelessness Prevention Committee. In 2023, she championed a historic $1 billion investment in safe, affordable housing for all Minnesotans. She is also the Senate Chair of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus, which leads legislative efforts to secure bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom.
Outside of her political career, Port lives in Burnsville with her husband and two kids. She serves as the Executive Director of a professional development nonprofit group. Her career experience includes working as a nonprofit executive director, advisor, and consultant.
