Omar Fateh is a member of the Minnesota State Senate, representing District 62. He assumed office on January 5, 2021. His current term ends on January 5, 2027. He ran for re-election to the Minnesota State Senate to represent District 62 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Omar Fateh was born in Washington, D.C., and currently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from Falls Church High School and later earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public administration from George Mason University.

Before his political career, Fateh worked as a campaign finance analyst for the Federal Election Commission and as an academic advisor with Northern Virginia Community College. These experiences have shaped his understanding of public service and governance.

Fateh is the son of hard-working immigrant parents from Somalia. They instilled in him the values of leadership and personal sacrifice, while raising him to work first and foremost to increase opportunity, justice, and equity for our community.

In the Minnesota State Senate, Fateh has been assigned to several committees. In the 2023-2024 term, he served as the Chair of the Senate Higher Education Finance and Policy Committee and Vice Chair of the Health and Human Services Finance and Policy Committee. He was also a member of the Local Government Committee.

Fateh is an Ambassador with Change of the Narrative and a mentor with Tusaalo Mentoring. He is also active with local organizations and initiatives such as Neighborhoods Organizing for Change, VoteYes4Kids, 15Now, Minnesota Association of Public Employees, and the DFL Somali Caucus.

Fateh and his wife, Kaltum Mohamed, currently rent an apartment in the Phillips neighborhood. His commitment to his community and his dedication to public service continue to guide his work in the Minnesota State Senate.
