He has worked as a senior leader educator at the U.S. Army War College and as vice president of Construction Management at UniversalPegasus International. His extensive background in both military and civilian sectors has provided him with a unique perspective on leadership and governance.

In the 2024 general election, Sexton ran for the Minnesota House of Representatives to represent District 19B. He won the election with 66% of the vote, defeating his opponent, Edelgard Fernandez Mejia. His victory marked the beginning of his tenure in the Minnesota House of Representatives, where he has been actively working on various legislative initiatives and serving on multiple committees, including Capital Investment, Energy Finance and Policy, and State Government Finance and Policy.

Sexton resides in Waseca, Minnesota, with his wife, Jeanne Marie, and their two children.
