Representative Carl Mickens
Carl Lewis Mickens, born on August 2, 1960, is an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party. He represents the 42nd District in the Mississippi House of Representatives. His political journey began when he was first elected in 2015.
Mickens hails from Noxubee County, Mississippi. He is married to Cheryl Richardson and they both follow the Baptist faith. He has a strong connection with his community and is affiliated with the Kentucky State University alumni chapter, NAACP, Prince Hall Mason, MS Farm Bureau, Earl Nash PTO, and NCHS Booster.
Before his political career, Mickens gained a wealth of experience in various fields. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration. He served as the Noxubee County Circuit Clerk and as the Noxubee County Justice Court Judge. In addition to his public service, Mickens also worked in the funeral services industry.
Mickens assumed office on January 5, 2016. His current term ends on January 4, 2028. He ran for re-election to the Mississippi House of Representatives to represent District 42 and won in the general election on November 7, 2023.
Throughout his tenure, Mickens has been assigned to various committees. In the 2023-2024 term, he served as the Vice Chair of the House Corrections Committee and was a member of the House Education Committee, House Energy Committee, Public Utilities Committee, and the House Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committee.
In the 2020-2021 term, he served on the Public Utilities Committee, House Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committee, House Corrections Committee (as Vice-Chairman), House Education Committee, and House Energy Committee.
In the 2019-2020 term, he served on the House Constitution Committee, House Corrections Committee (as Vice-Chairman), House Education Committee, Conservation and Water Resources Committee, Public Utilities Committee, and Workforce Development Committee.
Mickens’ dedication to his role is evident in his successful re-election campaigns. In the general election for Mississippi House of Representatives District 42 on November 7, 2023, Mickens defeated Shantell Stevens, securing 88.4% of the votes. He also advanced from the Democratic primary for Mississippi House of Representatives District 42 on August 8, 2023, with 100% of the votes.
