David Blount
Born on July 19, 1967, David Blount is a Democratic member of the Mississippi Senate, representing the 29th District since 2008. His present term of office will end in 2028. He is Vice Chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus.
Early Life and Education
David Blount was born in Jackson, Mississippi. He attended both the University of Virginia and Davidson College.
Career
Before his political career, David Blount worked as Communications Director for the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office. In 2007, he defeated two other Democratic opponents to win the Democratic nomination for Senate seat #29 in Hinds County. He went on to defeat the incumbent senator, Richard White.
Blount was re-elected in 2011 with 69 percent of the vote over a Republican opponent, and again in 2015 with 79 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 2019. His present term of office will end in 2028.
In addition to his political career, Senator Blount is a licensed real estate broker. He serves on the board of directors of the Metro Jackson Chamber of Commerce and the Byram Chamber of Commerce.
Personal Life
David Blount is married to Katherine Blount. They have two children, Susanna and Charley. They reside in Jackson, Mississippi.
