Career

Hester Jackson-McCray assumed office on January 7, 2020. She defeated the incumbent, Ashley Henley, to win her seat. Her current term is set to end on January 4, 2028. Jackson-McCray ran for re-election to the Mississippi House of Representatives to represent District 40 and won in the general election on November 7, 2023.

Historical Significance

Jackson-McCray has made history in several ways. She was the first African American to represent DeSoto County in the Legislature. Additionally, she is just the third African American to represent a majority-white legislative district since Reconstruction.
