Joey Hood, born on December 11, 1976, in Amory, Mississippi, is a dedicated public servant and a member of the Republican Party. He represents District 35 in the Mississippi House of Representatives. His journey into politics began in 2012, and he has been serving his constituents ever since. His current term is set to end on January 4, 2028.

Education has played a significant role in shaping Joey Hood’s career. He attended the French Camp Academy in French Camp, Mississippi, where he laid the foundation of his academic journey. He later pursued higher education at Mississippi State University, earning a degree in political science and history. His thirst for knowledge didn’t stop there. He furthered his education by studying law at the Mississippi College School of Law.

Before embarking on his political career, Joey Hood gained valuable experience working for former U.S. Senator Trent Lott (R-MS) in Washington D.C. He later returned to Mississippi to study law and began his legal career as a law clerk and attorney.

In the 2011 elections, Joey Hood won the Republican primary and stood as his party’s candidate for District 35. With no Democrat running against him, he easily defeated the Libertarian candidate in the November 8, 2011 general election.

As a legislator, Joey Hood has been assigned to various committees throughout his tenure. These include the House Appropriations Committee, Conservation and Water Resources Committee, House Drug Policy Committee, House Energy Committee, Judiciary A Committee, Judiciary En Banc Committee, and the House Medicaid Committee, where he served as Chair.

Outside of his political career, Joey Hood is also a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, Choctaw County Medical Foundation, and Simpson Volunteer Fire Department. He is married to Cynthia Oswalt, and they are of the Presbyterian faith.
