Kabir Karriem is a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, representing District 41. He assumed office on January 5, 2016. His current term ends on January 4, 2028. He ran for re-election to the Mississippi House of Representatives to represent District 41 and won in the general election on November 7, 2023.

Karriem was born on February 26, 1973, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. He is a member of the Democratic Party and resides in Columbus, Mississippi, U.S. He is married to Carolyn Turner.

Before his political career, Karriem was a businessman, representing four generations of business owners in Columbus and Lowndes County. He is a product of the Columbus Municipal School District and a graduate of Mississippi State University.

Karriem’s political career began when he became City Councilman for Ward 5 Columbus, Mississippi in 2009. He served on the Columbus City Council for two terms, representing Ward Five.

In his role as a State Representative, Karriem has served on several committees. These include the Drug Policy, Military Affairs, Municipalities, Ports, Harbors, and Tourism committees. He has also been assigned to the House Energy Committee, the Military Affairs Committee, the House Municipalities Committee, the Ports, Harbors and Airports Committee, and the Public Health and Human Services Committee.

In the 2023 general election for Mississippi House of Representatives District 41, incumbent Kabir Karriem defeated Claude Simpson. Karriem received 79.2% of the votes, totaling 4,748 votes. Claude Simpson received 20.8% of the votes, totaling 1,247 votes.
