Representative Perry Van Bailey

Perry Van Bailey is a member of the Republican Party and currently serves in the Mississippi House of Representatives, representing District 23. He assumed office on May 9, 2025, and his current term will conclude on January 4, 2028.

Bailey is a lifelong Mississippian and a native of Calhoun County. He graduated from Calhoun City High School in 1981 and went on to earn his degree from Mississippi State University in 1985. Professionally, Bailey spent more than three decades working with the United States Department of Agriculture in land management while simultaneously managing his family’s farming operation, Bailey Farms. His background as a farmer and his extensive experience in agricultural management have shaped his legislative priorities, particularly in areas concerning rural development, land use, and support for Mississippi’s farming communities.

Bailey first entered the Mississippi House of Representatives through a special election in February 2023, succeeding Charles Beckett after Beckett resigned to become director of the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff. Bailey served until January 2024, when Andrew Stepp succeeded him. In April 2025, Bailey ran again in a special election for District 23 and won, reclaiming his seat and beginning his current term in May 2025. His district includes portions of Calhoun, Grenada, Lafayette, and Webster counties, areas with strong agricultural ties that align closely with his professional expertise and personal background.

Outside of politics, Bailey is deeply involved in his community. He is a member of Derma Baptist Church and serves on the board of the Farm Bureau. He is also a founding member of the Calhoun County chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, reflecting his passion for conservation and outdoor activities. An avid hunter and supporter of the National Rifle Association, Bailey’s personal interests often intersect with his legislative focus on preserving Mississippi’s natural resources and supporting responsible land use policies.

Bailey’s personal life is rooted in family and community. He has been married to his wife, Tyanne Suber Bailey, a retired teacher, for over 40 years. Together, they have built a life centered on service, faith, and commitment to their local community. His long-standing dedication to agriculture, conservation, and public service continues to guide his work in the Mississippi House of Representatives, where he advocates for policies that strengthen rural communities and ensure that the voices of his constituents are represented in state government.
