Robert Sanders is a member of the Democratic Party and represents District 29 in the Mississippi House of Representatives. He assumed office on November 3, 2021, and his current term ends on January 4, 2028. He ran for re-election to the Mississippi House of Representatives to represent District 29 and won in the general election on November 7, 2023.

Sanders was born in Shaw, Mississippi, and currently resides in Cleveland, Mississippi. He graduated from Shaw High School in 1980 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Mississippi Valley State University.

Before his political career, Sanders served as the chief of police of the Mississippi Valley State University Police Department and the Shaw Police Department. He was also an internal affairs investigator with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He later served as sergeant-at-arms for the Mississippi State Senate from 2000 to 2004.

In addition to his political and law enforcement careers, Sanders is affiliated with the Mississippi Association of Police, MML Executive Board, Salvation Army Executive Board, Chamber of Commerce, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, and the Mississippi Valley State University Hall of Fame.

Sanders has also served as the vice president of the Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police. His career experience includes working as the chief of police of Mississippi Valley State University and Shaw Police Department, an internal affairs investigator with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, and the sergeant at arms of the Mississippi State Senate.

He has been assigned to several committees in the Mississippi House of Representatives, including the House Agriculture Committee, House Drug Policy Committee, Military Affairs Committee, House Tourism Committee, and Youth and Family Affairs Committee.
