John Thomas “Trey” Lamar III was born on August 5, 1980, in Senatobia, Mississippi. He attended Magnolia Heights School in Senatobia. He graduated from the University of Mississippi, the Mississippi College School of Law, and Washington University in St. Louis.

Trey Lamar is an American lawyer and a Republican politician. He has been serving as a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives since 2012, representing Mississippi’s 8th House district, which comprises parts of Tate and Lafayette Counties.

In his early life, Lamar was born and raised in Senatobia, Mississippi. He pursued his education with a strong focus, earning his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Mississippi. He furthered his studies by obtaining a J.D. from the Mississippi College School of Law, and an LL.M. in Taxation from Washington University in St. Louis.

Professionally, Lamar has practiced law at the firm of Lamar & Hannaford, P.A. in Senatobia, and has worked as an adjunct professor at Northwest Mississippi Community College. His legal expertise and dedication to public service led him to politics, where he has made significant contributions as a Republican representative.

In the Mississippi House of Representatives, Lamar has held several key positions. In the current (2020-2024) session, Lamar is the chairman of the House’s Ways and Means committee. Over the years, he has served on various committees including the House Compilation, Revision and Publication Committee, House Executive Contingent Fund Committee, House Investigate State Offices Committee, Judiciary A Committee, Judiciary En Banc Committee, House Legislative Budget Committee, Ways and Means Committee, and the House Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committee.
