Representative Wick Thomas is a dedicated and passionate Democrat who proudly represents District 19 in the Missouri House of Representatives. Elected in November 2024, they bring a wealth of experience in education, public service, and the arts to their legislative work. A lifelong Missourian, Wick grew up in Drexel and later moved to Kansas City, where they attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. They furthered their education by obtaining a Master’s degree in Library Sciences from Emporia State University.

Before entering politics, Wick Thomas worked as a Faculty Librarian for Metropolitan Community College – Kansas City. They also served as a Teen Services Librarian at the Kansas City Public Library and as a Manager of Teen Programs at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Their career is marked by a deep commitment to community service, education, and social justice.

Outside of their legislative duties, Representative Thomas is an active volunteer for nonprofits within their district. They are known for their efforts in building and filling little free libraries, promoting literacy and access to books for all. Their activism and leadership have been recognized with several awards, including being named a “Mover and Shaker” by the Library Journal, awarded Best Activist by Pitch Magazine, and honored with the Creating Change Award from The National LGBTQ Taskforce.

Wick Thomas is happily married to their spouse, Clay, with whom they share a small historic arts business. Together, they work on their historic home and urban homestead, reflecting their love for history and community. As the first openly transgender or non-binary state legislator in Missouri, Representative Thomas has made history and continues to advocate for the rights and well-being of all Missourians. Their legislative priorities focus on education, libraries, the arts, and social justice, making them a true champion for their constituents.
