Senator Fred Meyer
Fred Meyer is a dedicated public servant and a member of the Nebraska State Senate, representing District 41. He was appointed to the Nebraska Legislature on November 15, 2023, to replace Tom Briese, who resigned.
Born on October 27, 1951, in West Point, Fred Meyer is a proud Nebraskan. He completed his high school education at West Point High School in 1970 and went on to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he graduated in 1974.
Fred Meyer is not just a politician; he is also a farmer and rancher by profession. His deep roots in agriculture have played a significant role in his political career, shaping his perspectives and policy priorities.
In addition to his agricultural pursuits, Fred Meyer has a strong background in education. Before his appointment to the Nebraska State Senate, he served on the Nebraska State Board of Education from 1999 to 2010. His commitment to education is evident in his legislative work.
Fred Meyer is a family man. He married Kay Christensen on June 5, 1976, and they have three children: Chris, Jon, and Jordan. His family life has undoubtedly influenced his approach to public service, grounding him in the values and concerns of everyday Nebraskans.
Throughout his career, Fred Meyer has been an active member of several organizations. He is a member of Ag Builders of Nebraska, Nebraska Cattlemen, Nebraska Farm Bureau, and Christ Lutheran Church. He also serves as the vice-president of the KAAPA Coop Board and was a former member of the Howard County Foundation, where he served as treasurer.
Fred Meyer’s contributions to his community and state have not gone unnoticed. He has received several honors and awards, including the Outstanding LEAD Alumni, Friend of Education from the Nebraska State Education Association, the Elaine Stuhr Leadership and Advocacy Award from Nebraska Excellence in Career Education, and the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement. He is also a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary.
As a senator, Fred Meyer is committed to serving his constituents and the state of Nebraska. His tenure in the Nebraska State Senate continues to be marked by his dedication to education, agriculture, and property tax relief. His current term ends on January 8, 2025.
