Toby Yurek, whose full name is Thaddeus “Toby” Yurek III, is an American politician and a member of the Nevada State Assembly. A Republican, he represents the 19th district, which covers parts of Clark County.

Yurek was born in 1973 in Anchorage, Alaska, and moved to Henderson, Nevada, in 1988. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Church Growth with an emphasis in Preaching from Hope International University. Yurek further pursued education in Criminal Justice, earning a Master of Science from Boston University, and completed his Juris Doctor from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, William S. Boyd School of Law. He is a Christian.

Yurek’s career began in law enforcement with the Henderson Police Department in 1995, where he served in various capacities, including Lieutenant and commander of the Tactical Response Bureau, over a span of twenty years. After retiring from the police force, he shifted his focus to legal practice, particularly aiding Police Officers and Firefighters who had been injured or killed in the line of duty.

Elected to the Nevada Assembly in November 2022 to represent District 19, Yurek co-sponsored Assembly Bill 175 during his first term. This bipartisan legislation targeted educational reform in the Clark County School District, implementing policy reforms to enhance the educational landscape in Southern Nevada.

Yurek has held several positions that underscore his commitment to public service and legal education, including serving as a Fourth Amendment legal instructor, a Judge Pro Tempore for the Henderson Municipal Court, and on the boards of various educational and community organizations. His contributions to legal scholarship include co-authoring a critique of the Automobile Exception in Nevada, reflecting his expertise in legal analysis.

Over the years, Yurek has received multiple honors for his service and leadership, including being named Officer of the Year by the Henderson/Green Valley Elks Lodge No. 2802 and Sworn Supervisor of the Year by the City of Henderson Police Department. He also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Hope International University.

Toby is married to Carrie Yurek, a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern. They have three sons, TJ, Tyler, and Trey. The family is actively involved in their local church, and Toby enjoys outdoor activities such as camping and hunting.
