James P. Gray, born in June 1949, is an American politician from the state of New Hampshire. He is a member of the Republican Party and has been representing the 6th district in the New Hampshire Senate since 2016.

Before his election to the Senate, Gray served two terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives for Strafford’s 8th district. In addition to his legislative duties, Gray also serves on the Rochester City Council for the 6th ward and previously worked as the town moderator.

Gray’s political career has been marked by a number of significant roles and responsibilities. In the Senate, he has served as chair of the Election Law and Municipal Affairs Committee and vice chair of the Health and Human Services Committee since December 2020. He also chaired the Special Committee on Redistricting from 2021 to 2022. Prior to these roles, Gray chaired the now-decommissioned Public and Municipal Affairs Committee from December 2016 to December 2018.

In the 2022 general election, Gray ran for re-election to the New Hampshire State Senate to represent District 6. He won the election and began serving as Senate President Pro Tempore in 2023. His current term ends on December 4, 2024.

Beyond his political career, Gray is a retired Electrical Engineer and Engineering Manager. He was educated at the University of New Hampshire, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He is married to Joanne and they have four children.
