Representative Joan Hamblet
Joan L. Hamblet is a dedicated public servant and a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Rockingham 26. She assumed office on December 7, 2022, and her current term ends on December 4, 2024.
Born and raised in Portsmouth, Joan has always been deeply involved in her community. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1971. After graduation, she embarked on a career in public service that spanned nearly three decades.
From 2000 to 2019, Joan served as a Child Support Officer for the Division of Child Support Services, Department of Health and Human Services. Prior to that, from 1998 to 2000, she was a Secretary for the Division for Children, Youth, and Families, DHHS. She also held the position of Secretary for the Division of Child Support Services, DHHS from 1997 to 1998.
Joan’s commitment to public service extends beyond her professional life. She has been a 25-year member of the State Employees’ Association, SEIU Local 1984, and has served as the Past President of Seacoast Chapter 41, SEIU Local 1984.
In local government, Joan has served as the Moderator for Portsmouth Ward 3 from 2017 to present and was a Selectman for Portsmouth Ward 3 from 2015 to 2017. She was also a former member of the Portsmouth Democrats Executive Committee.
Joan retired in 2019 but remains active in her community. She is a saxophone player in the Leftist Marching Band and a gardening volunteer at the Strawbery Banke Museum. She enjoys gardening, music, birdwatching, neighborhood projects, and spending time with her neighbors and her two adult sons who live in Portsmouth.
Joan Hamblet is not just a representative; she is a community member, a neighbor, and a friend. Her dedication to her community and the State of New Hampshire is evident in her long history of public service. As a State Representative, she continues to work tirelessly to serve her community and make a difference in the lives of the people she represents.
