Senator Sharon Carson
Sharon Carson, born on November 11, 1957, in Limestone, Maine, is an American politician who has been serving in the New Hampshire Senate from the 14th district since 2008. She is a member of the Republican Party.
Before her tenure in the Senate, Carson served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from Rockingham’s 3rd district from 2000 to 2008. She has held various leadership roles during her political career. She served as the President pro tempore of the New Hampshire Senate twice, first from 2014 to 2018 and then from 2020 to 2022. In 2022, she assumed the office of the Majority Leader of the New Hampshire Senate.
Carson’s educational background includes an Associate degree from Mount Wachusett Community College, which she earned in 1986. She later attended the University of New Hampshire, Durham, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in 1996 and her Master’s degree in 1998.
In addition to her political career, Carson has also made significant contributions to academia. She serves as a professor at Nashua Community College, teaching American Government and Politics. Her professional experience also includes working as a teaching assistant for the University of New Hampshire from 1999 to 2002.
Carson’s service extends beyond politics and academia. She was a sergeant first class in the United States Army Reserve, serving as a medical technologist at the 323rd Medical Lab from 1978 to 1996.
Throughout her political career, Carson has been assigned to various committees. In the 2023-2024 legislative session, she served as the Vice Chair of the Senate Executive Departments and Administration Committee and the Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
