Susan W. Almy, born on March 28, 1946, is a prominent figure in the New Hampshire political landscape. She is a member of the Democratic Party and has been representing the Grafton 13th District in the New Hampshire House of Representatives since 1996.

Born in New York City, Susan Almy moved to Lebanon, New Hampshire, where she currently resides. She has a strong academic background, having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Swarthmore College in 1968, followed by a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1969 and 1974, respectively. Prior to her political career, she worked as an International Agricultural Researcher.

In addition to her role in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, Susan Almy has held several other significant positions. As of 2008, she has been serving as the chair of the board of directors of the New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union, the local affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union.

Throughout her political career, Susan Almy has been known for her consistent support for same-sex marriage. She has voted in favor of bills such as ‘Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage’, ‘Prohibiting Gender Identity Discrimination’, and ‘Religious Choice in Performing Marriage Ceremonies’. She has also stated that she does not believe marriage should only be between a man and a woman, and that New Hampshire should continue to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

On the topic of abortion, Susan Almy has expressed her pro-choice stance. She has voted accordingly, and in 2010, voted to try to repeal the bill ‘Expanding Homicide to Include “Unborn Child”’. She also does not believe that abortion should only be legal within the first trimester of pregnancy, and that women should be able to have abortions when she is endangered or when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape.

Susan Almy’s political positions have earned her various ratings from different interest groups. Conservative interest groups generally give Almy a low rating. However, liberal interest groups, such as the New Hampshire Citizen’s Alliance, give Almy relatively high ratings.
