Representative Andrew Macurdy

Andrew Macurdy is a member of the Democratic Party and currently serves in the New Jersey General Assembly, representing District 21. He assumed office on January 13, 2026, and his current term will conclude on January 11, 2028.

Macurdy won his seat in the general election held on November 4, 2025, alongside his running mate Vincent Kearney, successfully flipping the district from Republican to Democratic control by defeating incumbents Michele Matsikoudis and Nancy Munoz.

Macurdy grew up in New Jersey and attended Rancocas Valley Regional High School before pursuing higher education at Swarthmore College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He later attended Harvard Law School, obtaining his Juris Doctor, which prepared him for a career in law and public service. Professionally, Macurdy has worked as an attorney at Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight LLP, and his legal career includes significant public service roles. He served as Senior Counsel in the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, and as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. These experiences provided him with a strong foundation in criminal justice, public accountability, and the complexities of state and federal law.

A resident of Summit, New Jersey, Macurdy’s decision to run for office was driven by his commitment to fairness, transparency, and community representation. His background as a prosecutor and attorney has shaped his legislative priorities, which emphasize justice reform, economic opportunity, and strengthening public trust in government institutions. His campaign highlighted the importance of responsive leadership and policies that address the needs of working families, suburban communities, and marginalized groups across District 21, which includes parts of Union, Somerset, and Morris counties.
