He assumed office in 2018 and his current term ends on January 13, 2026. Verrelli ran for re-election to the New Jersey General Assembly in the 2023 general election and secured victory. Let’s delve into his background and accomplishments:

Early Life and Career: Born in Trenton, Verrelli grew up in Lawrence Township, where he attended Notre Dame High School. His journey into carpentry began, and he later became an active union member, eventually rising to the position of President of Carpenters Local Union 254. His commitment to labor advocacy and community service shaped his path in public service.

Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders: Verrelli’s dedication extended to local governance. In 2016, he was elected to the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders, succeeding long-time freeholder Anthony Carabelli. During his tenure, Verrelli contributed to county-wide advisory boards and served on the township zoning board. His commitment to public service led him to resign from this position after being selected to fill a vacant seat in the New Jersey Assembly.

New Jersey Assembly: Verrelli was sworn into the New Jersey General Assembly on August 5, 2018, succeeding Reed Gusciora, who had become Mayor of Trenton. As an Assemblyman, Verrelli has been actively involved in legislative matters. Notably, in 2020, he co-sponsored Assembly Bill 4454 (now N.J.S.A. 18A:35-4.36a), which mandates diversity and inclusion curriculum in schools for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Committee Assignments: Verrelli’s committee assignments reflect his dedication to various policy areas:

  • State and Local Government (Chair)
  • Community Development and Affairs (Vice-Chair)
  • Labor (Vice-Chair)
  • Special Committee on Infrastructure and Natural Resources

Electoral History: In the 2023 general election, Verrelli secured re-election alongside Verlina Reynolds-Jackson. Their victory reaffirmed the Democratic hold on the 15th Legislative District.
