Claire Swift, born on June 9, 1974, is an American Republican Party politician who has represented the 2nd Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly since taking office on January 11, 2022. Her journey into politics was shaped by her upbringing and education.

As one of eight children raised by a single father, Swift learned the importance of hard work and perseverance from an early age. She graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1992 and went on to earn her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1996. Later, in 1999, she obtained her law degree from Widener University Delaware Law School. Swift’s commitment to public service began during her tenure as a Deputy Attorney General in New Jersey until 2003, when she joined her family law firm.

Political Career

Swift’s political career gained momentum in the 2021 New Jersey General Assembly election. Alongside her running mates, incumbent Senator Vincent J. Polistina and former Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian, she was elected in a Republican sweep of the district. This victory flipped both Assembly seats from the Democrats, marking a significant shift in the 2nd Legislative District.

In the 2022 general election, Swift was one of a record seven new Republican Assemblywomen elected, joining seven Republican women incumbents who won re-election that year. Her commitment to public service and dedication to her constituents have been evident throughout her tenure.
