Representative Erik Peterson
Erik C. Peterson (born March 8, 1966) is an American Republican Party politician who represents the 23rd Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly.
Peterson has been an assemblyman since 2009, and deputy Republican whip since January 2024. He was the Republican parliamentarian from 2020 to 2023, assistant minority whip from 2014 to 2019 and policy co-chairman from 2012 to 2014.
Peterson earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from North Carolina State University in 1988. He went on to get his law degree from Temple University Law School in 1996, and was admitted to the New Jersey and Pennsylvania state bars that same year. He is an attorney specializing in business transactions, real estate, and trust and estate law.
Previously, he was a Hunterdon County freeholder from 2006 to 2009, serving as deputy director in 2007 and director in 2008.
Peterson and his wife reside in Franklin with their four children.
