Gregory P. McGuckin is an American lawyer and Republican Party politician who has served in the New Jersey General Assembly, representing the 10th Legislative District since January 10, 2012.
Early Life and Education
McGuckin was born in East Orange, New Jersey, and raised in Brick Township. His father, John McGuckin, was the town’s first directly elected mayor. He earned a B.A. degree from Providence College in 1983 and a J.D. degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1987. During his studies, he interned for U.S. District Court Judge John W. Bissell and clerked for Judges of the New Jersey Superior Court in Ocean County.
Legal Career
After completing his education, McGuckin became an associate with the Forked River law firm of Dasti, Murphy & Wellerson. He later became a partner in the firm, now known as Dasti, Murphy, McGuckin, Ulaky, Cherkos & Connors. His legal practice has focused on serving municipalities as a solicitor, prosecutor, and attorney for planning and zoning boards.
Political Career
McGuckin’s political career began when he was elected to the Toms River Township Council in 2003. He was re-elected in 2005 and 2009, serving as Council President from 2004 to 2011. In 2011, he ran for the open Assembly seat in the 10th District and was sworn in on January 10, 2012. He has been re-elected multiple times and continues to represent his constituents in the New Jersey General Assembly.
