John J. Burzichelli, born on November 14, 1954, is a prominent American Democratic Party politician hailing from Paulsboro, New Jersey. He has been serving as the Senator from New Jersey’s 3rd Legislative District since January 9, 2024. This seat was won by him after defeating the incumbent Edward Durr in the 2023 New Jersey Senate election.

Before his tenure as a Senator, Burzichelli had a distinguished career in the New Jersey General Assembly, representing the 3rd District from 2002 to 2022. During his time in the Assembly, he held significant positions such as the Deputy Speaker from 2006 to 2021 and the Assistant Majority Leader from 2004 to 2005.

In addition to his legislative roles, Burzichelli served as the Mayor of Paulsboro from 1996 to 2011. His leadership extended beyond politics into community service. He was a founding member of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Paulsboro and a Past President of the Greater Paulsboro Chamber of Commerce.

His professional experience includes being the owner, producer, and distributor of Hill Studio and Scenic, as well as the host and producer of Eye on Paulsboro. This Paulsboro-based studio provides services and special effects to the motion picture, video, and still photography industry.

In 2010, Governor Christie appointed Burzichelli as a permanent member of the former New Jersey Red Tape Review Commission. He also previously served as a member of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Executive Board.

Throughout his political career, Burzichelli has been part of various committees. He was the Chairman of the New Jersey General Assembly Appropriations Committee from 2012 to 2022 and the Chairman of the New Jersey General Assembly Gaming Committee from 2008 to 2012.

In the 2023 general election for New Jersey State Senate District 3, John Burzichelli emerged victorious, defeating incumbent Edward R. Durr. He assumed office on January 9, 2024, and his current term ends on January 11, 2028.
