Representative William Sampson
William B. Sampson IV (born January 13, 1989) is an American Democratic Party politician. He assumed office on January 11, 2022, representing the 31st Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly.
Early Life and Education: Sampson was born and raised in Bayonne, New Jersey. He graduated from Bayonne High School and then attended Clark Atlanta University before transferring to New Jersey City University.
Career and Political Journey: Before entering politics, Sampson worked as a crane operator at Bayonne Container Terminals. His commitment to public service led him to run for office.
In the 2021 New Jersey General Assembly election, Sampson won the support of Mayor of Bayonne James Davis and secured the Assembly seat that had been held by Nicholas Chiaravalloti. He was elected alongside running mate Angela V. McKnight, becoming the first African American state legislator from Bayonne.
In the 2023 New Jersey General Assembly election, Sampson and McKnight were re-elected. They defeated Republican candidates Angelique M. Diaz and Sydney J. Ferreira, as well as two independent candidates.
