Senator Anita Gonzales

Anita Gonzales is a member of the Democratic Party serving in the New Mexico House of Representatives. She represents District 70, which includes parts of San Miguel and Torrance counties. Gonzales assumed office on January 1, 2025, and her current term is set to end on December 31, 2026.

Born and raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Anita Gonzales has deep roots in her community. She pursued her education with determination, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Human Performance and Sport with a minor in Business Management from New Mexico Highlands University in 2004. She later completed her Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Administration from the same institution in 2007. Her academic journey also included time at Texas A&M University, where she studied Recreation, Park, and Tourism Sciences.

Professionally, Gonzales has dedicated over two decades to empowering young people, particularly those from underrepresented and low-income communities. As the Deputy Director of New Mexico Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (NM MESA), Inc., she has worked tirelessly to promote STEM education across the state. Her efforts have connected students, educators, and institutions, fostering opportunities for rural and small-town youth to excel in fields like math, science, and technology.

Beyond her professional achievements, Gonzales has been an active participant in her community. She has served on various boards, including the San Miguel County Family & Community Health Council and the Rotary Club of Las Vegas. Her role as an acequia commissioner highlights her commitment to preserving local agriculture and water resources, which are vital to the region’s culture and livelihood. Additionally, she has collaborated with national organizations like the Hispanic College Fund to bring resources and opportunities to her home state.

Anita Gonzales is also a devoted mother, raising her son in the same community that shaped her values and aspirations. Her personal and professional life reflects a deep commitment to education, community service, and cultural preservation. Through her work in the New Mexico House of Representatives, she continues to advocate for policies that uplift her constituents and address the unique challenges of her district.
