Senator Elaine Sena Cortez

Elaine Sena Cortez is a Republican member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, representing District 62. She assumed office on January 1, 2025, and her current term is set to end on December 31, 2026.

Elaine Sena Cortez was born in Roswell, New Mexico, and raised in Hobbs, where she has spent the majority of her life. Her deep connection to her community has shaped her commitment to public service. Elaine pursued her education in Southeastern New Mexico, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of the Southwest in 2006, followed by a Master of Business Administration from Eastern New Mexico University in 2012. She later achieved a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of the Southwest.

Her academic career includes teaching at both the University of the Southwest and Eastern New Mexico University, her alma maters.

Her faith and family have been central to her values and her approach to leadership. Elaine’s late mother, Barbara Sena, was a pastor and educator who inspired Elaine’s passion for education. Her father, Pastor Fabian Sena, is a Vietnam War veteran whose service has deeply influenced Elaine’s advocacy for veterans’ rights.
