Senator Michelle Abeyta
Michelle Abeyta, a dedicated member of the Democratic Party, serves in the New Mexico House of Representatives, representing District 69. Michelle Abeyta, also known as Paulene, is a proud member of the Navajo Nation and hails from To’hajiilee, New Mexico, where she continues to reside with her family. Her academic journey reflects her passion for learning and leadership. She earned an associate degree in hospitality and tourism from Central New Mexico Community College, followed by a bachelor’s degree in Native American studies and communication from the University of New Mexico. She further pursued her education by obtaining a law degree from the University of Arizona, specializing in Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy.
Her dedication to community service is evident through her involvement in various boards and organizations. Abeyta has served on the To’hajiilee Community School Board of Education, the National Native American Bar Association Board, and the Woman, Infants & Children (WIC) Board for the Acoma-Canoncito-Laguna Service Unit. She has also contributed to the Canoncito Band of Navajos Health Center, Inc. Board and the National Native American Law Students Association. These roles highlight her commitment to advocating for the well-being and rights of her community.
