Senator Natalie Figueroa

Natalie Figueroa is a member of the Democratic Party serving in the New Mexico State Senate, representing District 18. She assumed office on January 1, 2025, and her current term is set to end on December 31, 2028.

Natalie Figueroa has a rich background in education and public service. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University and a Master of Education from the University of California, Los Angeles. Before entering politics, she dedicated over 30 years to teaching Spanish and mentoring educators. Her career included roles such as the director of the Global Studies Center at Alexander Hamilton High School, a trainer for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, and the chair of the Modern, Classical, and Native Language Department at Volcano Vista High School. She was also a Fulbright-Hays Scholar in 1999, which highlights her commitment to global education and cultural exchange.

Figueroa’s journey into politics began with her passion for improving education and advocating for her community. She previously served in the New Mexico House of Representatives for District 30, where she worked on various legislative initiatives aimed at enhancing public safety, expanding broadband access, and improving educational outcomes. Her leadership extended to serving on multiple committees, including the State Government, Elections & Indian Affairs Committee, and the Labor, Veterans’ and Military Affairs Committee.

Beyond her legislative work, Natalie Figueroa has been actively involved in numerous organizations. She has served as a board member for the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Language and the Southwest Conference on Language Teaching. Her community engagement includes volunteering with the Asbury Café and the Joshua Foundation, as well as participating in the Loma Del Rey Neighborhood Association.

Throughout her career, Figueroa has been a strong advocate for public safety, education reform, and community development. Her dedication to her constituents and her ability to address pressing issues make her a respected leader in New Mexico’s political landscape.
