Yanira Gurrola, whose full name is Flor Yanira Gurrola Valenzuela, is a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, representing District 16. She assumed office on January 17, 2023, and her current term ends on December 31, 2024. Gurrola is a member of the Democratic Party and is running for re-election to the New Mexico House of Representatives to represent District 16.

Gurrola was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 2000. She earned a Bachelor of Science in electronic industrial engineering from the Chihuahua Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in curriculum and instructional leadership from the College of Santa Fe.

Before her political career, Gurrola worked as a bilingual math teacher and a professional development coordinator. She was also a member of the board of Dual Language Education New Mexico. In January 2023, the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners appointed Gurrola to the New Mexico House of Representatives.

In her role as a legislator, Gurrola has been assigned to several committees. She is the Vice Chair of the House Enrolling and Engrossing Committee and a member of the House Education Committee and House Labor, Veterans’ and Military Affairs Committee.

Gurrola is dedicated to serving her constituents and making a positive impact in her community. Her commitment to education and her experience as an educator have shaped her approach to policy-making, particularly in areas related to education and workforce development.
