Amber M. Baker is an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party. She was elected as the representative for District 72 in the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing Forsyth County, in 2020. She assumed office on January 1, 2021. Her current term ends on January 1, 2025. She is running for re-election to the North Carolina House of Representatives to represent District 72 and is on the ballot in the general election on November 5, 2024.

Amber Baker was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Winston-Salem State University and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in educational leadership and administration from Ohio State University. She served as the principal of Kimberley Park Elementary School in Winston-Salem, N.C., part of Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools, from 2008 to 2019.

Politics and civic engagement were a large part of her upbringing, a fact that ultimately inspired her to run for public office. As a public school principal for over a decade, she considers herself an educator that moonlights as a politician.

As of the 2020 Census, North Carolina state representatives represented an average of 87,116 residents. After the 2010 Census, each member represented 79,715 residents. North Carolina legislators assume office on January 1 the year after their election.

In the 2020 North Carolina House of Representatives 72nd district Democratic primary election, Amber Baker received 7,678 votes, accounting for 58.61% of the total votes. In the general election, she received 29,524 votes, accounting for 71.33% of the total votes.
