Senator Benton G. Sawrey is a member of the Republican Party and represents District 10 in the North Carolina State Senate. He assumed office on January 1, 2023, and his current term ends on January 1, 2025. He is running for re-election to the North Carolina State Senate to represent District 10 and is on the ballot in the general election on November 5, 2024.

Born and raised in Johnston County, North Carolina, Sawrey graduated from Smithfield-Selma Senior High School in 2005. He earned a B.A. in political science and government from North Carolina State University in 2009 and a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2013. He is a third-generation graduate of North Carolina State University.

Sawrey’s career experience includes working as an attorney, where he helps small-business owners and farmers with transactions and navigating complex regulatory and tax issues. He has also volunteered on the board of trustees at Johnston Community College, served as the president of the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation, and as board treasurer of the Partnership for Children of Johnston County.
