Biography: Dudley Greene is a Republican member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 85. He assumed office on January 1, 2021. His current term ends on January 1, 2025. Greene is running for re-election to the North Carolina House of Representatives to represent District 85.
Born as Edwin Dudley Greene in Newland, North Carolina, he has dedicated his life to public service. Before his political career, Greene served as the sheriff of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, the chief detective/chief deputy with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office, and an agent with North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement. He earned an associate degree in criminal justice and corrections from Maryland Community College in 1985.
In the 2023-2024 session, Greene was assigned to several committees including the Appropriations Committee (Vice Chair), House Appropriations on Justice and Public Safety Committee (Chair), Families, Children, and Aging Policy Committee, Judiciary II Committee, State Government Committee, and State Personnel Committee (Vice Chair).

District 85: District 85 includes all of Avery, McDowell, and Mitchell counties. As of the 2020 Census, North Carolina state representatives represented an average of 87,116 residents. After the 2010 Census, each member represented 79,715 residents.
