Senator Timothy D. Moffitt, known as Tim Moffitt, is a Republican member of the North Carolina Senate, representing District 48. He assumed office on January 1, 2023. His current term ends on January 1, 2025.

Tim Moffitt was born as Timothy Douglas Moffitt in Asheville, North Carolina. He resides in Hendersonville, North Carolina. His professional experience includes owning a management consulting firm called Moffitt International.

Before his tenure in the Senate, Moffitt was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. He was first elected to the NC House of Representatives in 2010 and served until 2015, serving House District 116 in Buncombe County. He moved back to Henderson County in 2017 and ran for the open House seat to replace outgoing Rep. Chuck McGrady in 2020. He served District 117 until 2022.

Moffitt was appointed to the North Carolina House of Representatives by Gov. Roy Cooper (D) on Oct. 12, 2020, following the resignation of Charles McGrady (R). Moffitt previously represented the 116th district (based in Buncombe County) from 2011 until 2015, following his 2014 defeat to Democrat Brian Turner.

In terms of electoral history, Moffitt has had a series of wins and losses. In the 2022 North Carolina Senate 48th district general election, he won with 54,223 votes, which was 64.79% of the total votes. In the 2020 North Carolina House of Representatives 117th district general election, he won with 29,087 votes, which was 60.63% of the total votes. However, in the 2014 North Carolina House of Representatives 116th district general election, he lost to Democrat Brian Turner.

As for his committee assignments, Moffitt has served on several committees including Finance, Health, Local Government - Land Use, Planning and Development, Regulatory Reform - Vice Chair, Alcoholic Beverage Control - Chair, and Transportation.
