Jay Elkin is a dedicated public servant and a member of the North Dakota Senate, representing the 36th district. He assumed office on December 3, 2018, succeeding Kelly Armstrong who had been elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Born and raised in North Dakota, Elkin has deep roots in the community. He is a farmer and rancher by profession, demonstrating his commitment to the land and the people of North Dakota. He attended Bismarck State College and North Dakota State University, furthering his knowledge and skills.

Before his tenure in the Senate, Elkin served as a Stark County Commissioner from 2008 to 2020. His experience in local government provided him with a unique perspective on the needs and challenges of his constituents.

In the Senate, Elkin has been a strong advocate for the people of North Dakota. He has been particularly involved in promoting rare earth mineral exploration and production in southwest North Dakota, recognizing the potential of this industry for economic growth and job creation.
