Representative Mike Berg

Mike Berg is a Republican member of the North Dakota House of Representatives, representing District 8. He assumed office on December 1, 2024, and his current term will end on December 1, 2028.​

Born and raised in Hettinger, North Dakota, Mike is the son of a veterinarian and a published author. His upbringing instilled in him the values of hard work and community service. He pursued higher education at North Dakota State University (NDSU), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. This academic foundation launched a successful career in engineering.​

Mike’s professional journey began with leadership roles in the private sector, overseeing teams in Minneapolis and St. Louis. In 2007, he returned to North Dakota with his wife, Wendy, to raise their family in Bismarck. Embracing the state’s entrepreneurial spirit, Mike co-founded Apex Engineering Group in 2010. The firm specializes in water, transportation, and electrical projects, emphasizing practical solutions and exceptional customer service. Under his leadership, Apex has grown into a reputable engineering firm within the region.​

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mike has demonstrated a strong commitment to community involvement. He has served as a director for the American Water Works Association and the North Dakota American Council of Engineering Companies. His civic engagement includes participation in the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce and serving on the Church Council at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Additionally, Mike has volunteered with youth sports programs, reflecting his dedication to fostering community development.​

Mike’s decision to enter politics was driven by a desire to address workforce shortages and strengthen North Dakota’s economy through education and skills training. His campaign emphasized the importance of making North Dakota the best place to live and raise a family. As a state representative, Mike serves on the Appropriations Committee and its Human Resources Division, where he plays a crucial role in shaping the state’s budget and financial policies.​

Residing in rural Burleigh County, Mike and Wendy are parents to two children, Eleanor and Charlie. In his leisure time, Mike enjoys hunting, fishing, and hiking with his dogs, embracing the outdoor lifestyle that North Dakota offers. His multifaceted experiences as an engineer, entrepreneur, and community leader equip him to effectively represent the interests and values of his constituents in District 8.
