Representative Desiree Tims

Desiree Tims is a Democratic politician serving in the Ohio House of Representatives for District 38. She assumed office on January 6, 2025, and her current term is set to end on December 31, 2026.

Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Desiree Tims has always been deeply connected to her community. She graduated from Dunbar High School in 2006 and pursued higher education at Xavier University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. Her academic journey continued at Georgetown University Law Center, where she obtained her Juris Doctor degree. Tims also attended the Women’s Campaign School at Yale University, showcasing her commitment to leadership and public service.

Her career is marked by significant contributions to both local and national politics. Tims interned at the White House during Barack Obama’s presidency, gaining firsthand experience in governance and policy-making. She later worked as an aide to U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown and Kirsten Gillibrand, where she honed her skills in legislative processes and advocacy. Her professional journey also includes roles as a senior advisor for Child Care Aware of America and judiciary director at the League of Conservation Voters. Additionally, she served as a law clerk at Dinsmore & Shohl and directed Innovation Ohio, a progressive think tank.

In 2024, Tims ran for the Ohio House of Representatives in District 38, a seat previously held by Willis Blackshear Jr., who retired to pursue a position in the Ohio Senate. She defeated Derrick L. Foward in the Democratic primary and was unopposed in the general election, reflecting strong support from her constituents. Her campaign emphasized progressive values and a commitment to addressing the needs of her district.
