En el 1977 obtuvo un grado de Juris Doctor de la Escuela de Derecho de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y durante su primer año ocupó la presidencia de la clase. En el 1978 fue profesor de Criminología en el Puerto Rico Junior College y de 1979 al 1980, fue profesor de Derecho Mercantil y Ciencias Políticas en el Caguas City College.
